Tonight’s dinner is about recognition.  Tonight, we recognize our annual Bill Rowe Tourism Award recipient the Vancouver Convention centre, we recognize a new Skålleague joining us, we recognize our amazing guests joining us this evening.  And I wish to recognize our powerful female professionals that we are fortunate to have as members of our club as we celebrate international women’s month.

Ivano – Skal Canada Membership Drive Raffle donations by next week

Housekeeping item:

Moving forward Skal Vancouver will be moving away from drink tickets and towards cash bars.  As of the June 2018, Golf Tournament drink tickets will not be sold at the Skål dinners. Starting at the September dinner event cash bars will be available.

Drink tickets will be honored until February of 2019

In honour of International Women’s Month, we want to celebrate the professional females of our membership.  I would like to take a moment to recognize these members who are with us tonight:

President Michael opened the meeting and thanked all who attended. He covered the upcoming trip to Victoria on February 23. This will be the first event where Skal Club Vancouver and Skal Club Victoria will have a joint dinner event. We have 20 from our Club and Victoria has 20. Plus the Mayor will be in attendance, the President and CEO BC Ferry Corp and the CEO of Tourism Victoria. We will report back at the March 14th dinner event.  The February Newsletter has been posted for all to view; your feedback would be appreciated. Michael advised all members should have access to the Skal International Website, please go to the site and update your profile. If you have issues, please contact David.

Michael called on Angus; Chair of the Membership Committee to give us an update. The Life of the Club is the growth of our membership. Angus called on all Vancouver Skal members to bring in new members. A committee of three cannot do all the recruitment. This week we have signed on three new members, Rodriguz Diaz,Tourism Mexico,Ricardo Rojas,President of Protocolo Tours and Andrew Brownrigg General Manager BW Chateau Granville. In addition, over the next two months we have 5 potential new members. In summary, we need your assistance to grow our Club.

Bill Rowe Memorial Tourism Award for 2017

Harvey addressed the upcoming nominations required for the Bill Rowe Memorial Tourism Award for 2017. This is given to a Local individual,corporation or organisation that has significantly contributed to the success and growth of the Tourism Industry in Vancouver and British Columbia.

Ivano updated the club, Skal Canada will be having the Board Meeting in November of 2018. No location has been chosen; The Vancouver Club is considering hosting. We would require 20 guest rooms. Any of our members that our hoteliers please contact Ivano before October 20 th . We need to submit to Skal Canada by November 2 nd

We did recognize Erden Duygu, Secretary of the Skal Club of Izmir Turkey.

Michael, informed us he worked at the Vancouver Lawn and Tennis club for two years and knows many of the staff working this evening. His Grandfather ran the Pro Shop for a number of Years. Great information.

Harvey did a preview of previous winners and did a bio overview of Ty Speers and Tourism Vancouver. Greg presented the outstanding award to Tourism Vancouver’s Info.Centre.
Ty accepted and was humbled by the Award, he will have a meeting of the supervisors and volunteers at the Info.Centre and will proudly acknowledge them for a job well done.
